About two years ago my sister
convinced me to accompany her on a ghost tour. Her main objective was to
"take pictures." She had developed a fascination with spirit
photography, a hobby I couldn't quite understand until she showed me a few of
her results. One of her most compelling photographs was taken at the
Hawaii Plantation Village. While on a night tour of the location, she
captured an image of a woman in a mirror (see older post dated January 22,
2010).
This astonishing photograph fueled
her interest in spirit photography, and much to the chagrin of my husband, once
I got a taste of it, I was hooked as well. Our hobby has been questioned
by many and criticized by some. Seeking
out the dead is "weird" and "disrespectful." So why
do we do it? I really wasn’t sure at
first. Yes it was exciting, and
successful captures made it quite rewarding.
However after giving it much thought, I realized that these night
ventures fulfilled a deeper need. Being able to unveil an invisible
realm that only a fortunate few are capable of seeing makes the intangible,
tangible. Having physical confirmation
of this hidden dimension strengthens our belief that we are of energy and that
there is life after death. Most
importantly, it reinforces our conviction in God because he too is an unseen
force that we can only sense, but have no physical proof of existence
(yet).
